Phantom places

of York, Pennsylvania

Given enough time, a city can be defined as much by what it has built as what it has destroyed. Physical landmarks are wonderful storytellers, but what deserve equal (or perhaps greater) attention are the gaps in between; the voids left over when these buildings are taken away.

Exploring these “phantom places” isn’t just about indulging in nostalgia. It’s about examining the decisions and values that led to their loss and asking what their stories can still teach us.
